There were three cross functions in video games back then.

The first and most common is Cross Game, which refers to the ability to play multiplayer online with your friends, no matter what platform you use.

For example, someone on a PlayStation 4 should be able to play with a friend using an Xbox One or PC – as long as they are using the same version of the game.

The second type is called cross-progression, which refers to the ability to get the same progress while playing on multiple platforms.

For example, if you have reached level 40 of a game on your computer, you should be able to transfer the same progress to your PlayStation 4 instead of having to start the game from level 1.

The third and final type of crossover feature is multi-generational multiplayer, which refers to the ability to play games with your friends on different consoles of the same brand.

For example, a person on a PlayStation 4 must be able to play games with friends on a PlayStation 5.

The same goes for Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X etc.

Is Counter Strike: Global Offensive cross-play?

Counter Strike: Global Offensive is available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, macOS and Linux platforms.

Counter- Strike: GO has restricted cross-play, meaning computer players using Microsoft Windows can play online multiplayer with those using Steam on Mac OS and Linux.

Unfortunately, Counter Strike: Global Offensive does not have multiplayer between PC and Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Each platform can only play each other’s games as Valve dropped support for the console version of the game because the game is best suited for computer platforms – and it’s clear they’re not short on players.

CS:GO also lacks cross-generational multiplayer or cross-type advancements, making console ports essentially obsolete.
