Diablo 2: Resurrected is launching now, besides of appears that allegations of abuse against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and its employees have made the completion of Diablo 2: Resurrected problematic.

Specifically, the game has some problems when operating in online mode, causing the character selection at the beginning of the game failure. This problem occurs even with players who create a new character or used to.

This seems to be an authentication issue between the client and the server that causes the character configuration validation to fail and hence the error message.

Solving The Character Error In Diablo 2: Resurrected

According to the game’s announcement, it seems that the error message occurs because the character’s status is online. So the error message appears (even though your character is not actually online). So in order for Activision Blizzard’s servers to repeat the character authentication process with all player accounts.

  • First, you need to create a new character. Diablo 2 Resurrected has many different character classes, so choose whichever character you can. You also do not need to start the game with this character. The important part of creating the character is for Diablo 2 Resurrected’s server to reset your character information. So if the creation of a new character is successful, go back to the created character selection area and select the character you want to play to start the game.

  • If the above-mentioned method doesn’t work and you still get the error message, turn off Diablo 2 Resurrected completely. If possible restart your PC or Console device and open Diablo 2 Resurrected again. Then select the character you want to start the game to start with.
  • Finally, if the problem is still not resolved, I recommend playing Diablo 2 Resurrected in offline mode until the issue is resolved. I don’t think this was a serious bug that took a long time for Blizzard to fix. And now they are working on finding the cause of the problem. So please check regularly for announcements and updates from Blizzard regarding this issue.
