God of War fans are arguing whether or not Kratos should lift Thor’s hammer – Mjölnir – and use it as one more weapon in God of War Ragnarök.
Fans’ debate about if Kratos will wield Thor’s hammer Mjölnir
Kratos has used a good deal of powerful and legendary weapons all through the God of War series. And presently, a few fans are discussing if he will add Thor’s hammer Mjölnir to that list in God of War: Ragnarök.
After his teased appearance in a prophetic dream at the end of 2018’s God Of War reboot, the Nordic God of Thunder was affirmed to show up in the next sequence God of War Ragnarok, with fans fantasizing about Thor’s inescapable fight with Kratos in the years paving the way to Ragnarok’s highly anticipated release one year from now.
Sony Santa Monica’s take on Thor will be different
As displayed in God of War Ragnarok’s reveal trailer during the PlayStation Showcase September 2021 livestream and the game’s subsequent promotional art, Sony Santa Monica’s take on Thor will be not quite the same as what mainstream audiences are used to. Particularly, in opposition to the version portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Far from Chris Hemsworth’s well built and good natured depiction of the God of Thunder, God of War Ragnarok’s Thor is a vengeful brute hoping to kill Kratos and his child Atreus after the pair caused the passings of his children Magni and Modi – and his half-brother Baldur – during the happenings of God of War (2018).
Thor himself wasn’t shown until the end of the previous game. However, a sculpture ambiguously portraying his similarity can be seen during Kratos and Atreus’ travels across the Nine Realms. And Mimir once in a while discussed the Thunder God’s insignificance and cold-bloodedness.
Notwithstanding, one element remains in God of War’s adaptation of Thor: his mighty hammer Mjölnir, which permits him to summon powerful blasts of lighting and order the wind itself.
Reddit users discuss Kratos and Mjölnir
Reddit client 94reis asked God of War fans whether they figure Kratos will lift and claim Mjölnir as his own if and when he defeats Thor in a fight during God Of War Ragnarok.
A few fans assume this way. They point out that, in contrast to the Marvel version of Mjölnir – which requires the individual being referred to as “worthy” of wielding its huge power – the original version of Norse Mythology basically requires massive strength and a special belt and pair of gauntlets. All of which the Ghost of Sparta can undoubtedly take from a beaten Thor.
Others aren’t so certain, expressing that Kratos has a comparable weapon, his Leviathan Ax. And some additional Kratos’ previous propensity to take weapons from fallen bosses was exaggerated in the original God Of War trilogy.
Thor is only one of the numerous adversaries Kratos will face in God of War Ragnarok. This will see him and Atreus attempting to bring to light what’s behind an ancient prophecy that anticipates the apocalypse – and reality behind Atreus’ destiny as the god Loki.
Sony Santa Monica has affirmed that God of War Ragnarok will complete Kratos’s journey through the realms of Nordic folklore. It drives many fans to wonder whether the game will end in Kratos’ demise.
Kratos will not be going down easily. He and Atreus may require all the magic and weapons they can get in their journey to halt the titular Ragnarök.
Mjölnir could be a significant device in that arsenal, given Sony Santa Monica can make the hammer feel and play distinctively in contrast to the weapons Kratos as of now has – all while using its incredible powers in a satisfying way.
Obviously, Kratos will probably need to defeat Thor to get his hands on Mjölnir. And players will get to see which God is the most powerful when God Of War Ragnarok releases on PlayStation at some point one year from now.
